Southport is a seaside town in Merseyside, England, known for its Victorian architecture, Southport Pier — the second longest in the UK — and grand shopping boulevard, Lord Street.

Southport Pier

Walkers along the pier have reported phantom footsteps, shadowy figures vanishing into the mist, and a sudden chill as they approach its end, alongside a local legend of "the Haunted Sailor," an 18th-century mariner said to still be heard walking the planks.

Lord Street

Southport's grand Victorian boulevard is associated with reports of spectral figures and unexplained noises, including "the Arcade Lady," a figure reported along the street accompanied by a faint scent of perfume.

The Fisherman's Rest

Once the coach house of the now-demolished Birkdale Palace Hotel, this pub was used as a temporary mortuary for fourteen lifeboat men who died at sea. During the hotel's 1969 demolition, the demolition team reportedly experienced eerie voices and a lift behaving erratically; the hotel itself was also associated with the murder of a young girl by an employee.

Meols Hall

This manor house, expanded during the Victorian era, is associated with several reported hauntings, including "the Jilted Bride," an 18th-century heiress said to have died pining for a lost love, her ring cast into the estate's mere.

Notable people

Medium Derek Acorah lived in nearby Scarisbrick, close to Southport, with his wife Gwen.
