STATUSActive

Scarisbrick is a village and civil parish in West Lancashire, England, lying along the A570 between Ormskirk and Southport. It is the home of medium Derek Acorah, who lived there with his wife, Gwen.

Scarisbrick Hall

Scarisbrick Hall, a Grade I listed Gothic mansion designed in stages by architects Augustus and Edward Pugin for the Scarisbrick family, now operates as a school. It is associated with several reported hauntings, including "the Lost Heir," said to be an 1840s noble who vanished during a storm and whose footsteps are still reportedly heard in the hall, and "the Mourning Maid," a servant said to have died of grief around the turn of the 20th century, reportedly heard sobbing near the chapel.

A570 sighting

The Paranormal Database records a reported haunting manifestation along the A570 between the Morris Dancers pub and a nearby restaurant, with a witness describing a figure in a long woollen coat and hat with an unusual appearance, sighted in both autumn 2004 and again on 2 February 2023 — an unusually long-running individual report for the same specific stretch of road.

Notable people

Spiritual medium Derek Acorah lived in Scarisbrick with his wife, Gwen, until his death in 2020.
