Usage

{{cite encyclopedia
|title=
|encyclopedia=
|url=
|publisher=
|date=
|access-date=
}}

Use this for entries in a named encyclopedia (Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopedia.com, etc.), as distinct from {{cite web}} for a general website or {{cite news}} for a news article. The encyclopedia parameter is required — it's what this template renders in italics, and what distinguishes it from a generic web citation.

Parameters

  • title — the specific entry/article title within the encyclopedia
  • encyclopedia — the name of the encyclopedia itself (e.g. Encyclopædia Britannica)
  • url — optional, if the entry is viewable online
  • publisher — optional, if different from the encyclopedia's own name
  • date — optional, publication or last-revised date
  • access-date — optional
