Template:Fair-dealing
License tag for the Vault's narrow, deliberate use of UK fair dealing — as distinct from every other license tag on the Vault, which cover material the uploader has a positive right to use. This one covers material the Vault has no rights to at all, used only because a specific, narrow legal exception applies.
Do not apply this template, or upload a file expecting to use it, without first reading the Copyrights policy's fair dealing section in full. That page sets out what does and doesn't qualify — this template only records the rationale once you've already established it qualifies; it doesn't decide that for you.

Parameters
All five parameters are required. A rationale missing any of them is incomplete, and the file should not remain uploaded until it's filled in properly.
- purpose — which of the Copyrights policy's permitted fair dealing purposes this falls under (book cover / film still / text excerpt), and why
- source — who actually holds the copyright (publisher, studio, photographer) — required even though you don't have their permission, since attribution is part of what makes a use "fair"
- used_in — the specific article(s) where the subject of the image is actually discussed. A fair dealing image with no matching discussion anywhere is decoration, not fair dealing, and should be removed
- necessity — a short explanation of why words or a link genuinely aren't enough here
- minimal_use — confirmation of what makes this the smallest reasonable use (resolution, cropping, single frame vs. sequence, etc.)
If you're not sure this applies
Don't guess. Post on the file's talk page or ask before uploading — an incomplete or borderline rationale is worse than no image at all, since it puts the whole Vault at risk rather than just one page.
