Massachusetts is a state in the northeastern United States, home to Salem — synonymous with the 1692 witch trials — the notorious Lizzie Borden House, and the Bridgewater Triangle, a region cited for an unusually wide mix of reported ghosts, UFOs, and cryptid sightings.
The Lizzie Borden House
This Fall River house is regularly named the single most haunted location in Massachusetts. On 4 August 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were found brutally axe-murdered inside; their daughter, Lizzie, was tried and acquitted, and the case remains officially unsolved. Now operating as a museum and bed-and-breakfast, visitors and staff have reported phantom footsteps, whispers, and apparitions of the Bordens, along with toys said to move unaided on the upper floor, in rooms once belonging to two of the couple's other children.
Salem
Synonymous with the Salem witch trials of 1692–93, the city draws heavy tourism around its associated hauntings. The Old Burying Point Cemetery, established in 1637, is directly linked to the trials and holds the graves of several prominent figures from the period. The Witch House, the last surviving building directly connected to the trials, is said to still be haunted by the Puritans who once occupied it, and the ghost of Bridget Bishop — the first person executed during the trials — is reportedly seen around the Hawthorne Hotel, itself investigated (inconclusively) by the television series Ghost Hunters in 2007.
The Bridgewater Triangle
The Freetown-Fall River State Forest and surrounding area, popularly known as the "Bridgewater Triangle," is one of the most eclectic reportedly haunted regions in the United States, with eyewitness accounts spanning UFOs, ghosts, mysterious lights, giant snakes, poltergeist activity, and alleged animal and human sacrifice, alongside unsolved disappearances and murders.
