Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry is an American reality television series that aired on E! from 2016 to 2019, following self-described clairvoyant medium Tyler Henry as he conducted filmed readings for celebrities.[1] The show is regarded as the breakout project that established Henry as a mainstream television personality.
Format
Each hour-long episode centred on Henry's one-on-one readings with celebrity guests, in which he attempted to relay messages from their deceased loved ones, typically staged without Henry being told in advance who he would be reading.[2] The series was produced by 44 Blue Productions (a Red Arrow Studios company) and Corbett-Stern Productions in association with Mortar Media, with Michael Corbett, Stephanie Noonan Drachkovitch, Larry Stern, Cameron Kadison, David Hale, and Sarah Skibitzke serving as executive producers.[3]
Broadcast history
Two preview specials aired in late December 2015 and early January 2016, ahead of the series premiere on 24 January 2016 — an episode E! reported as its most-watched unscripted series launch in three years.[4] The first season's original eight-episode order was expanded to ten after strong early ratings.[5] The show ran for four seasons and 49 episodes in total, concluding in April 2019; E! did not renew it for a fifth season.[1][6]
Notable guests
The series premiere featured readings for Jaime Pressly, NeNe Leakes, Bella Thorne, and John Salley.[7] Across its run, the show featured readings for a wide range of celebrities, including Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Tom Arnold, Kris Jenner, Tori Spelling, Melissa Joan Hart, Moby, Tiffany Haddish, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, Rebel Wilson, and Anne Heche, among many others.[4][3][8]
Reception and criticism
The show drew consistently strong ratings for E!, but was also the subject of sustained scrutiny from sceptics, most notably writer Susan Gerbic, who examined Henry's on-screen readings in detail for Skeptical Inquirer, arguing they were consistent with cold-reading technique rather than genuine mediumship.[2] The 2016 Kreed Kafer-style scrutiny applied to Henry never reached the same scale as the controversy surrounding Derek Acorah on Most Haunted, but sceptics raised comparable concerns about whether the show's central "no prior knowledge" framing could be independently verified.[2]
