Sherwood Forest is a royal forest in Nottinghamshire, England, historically the hunting ground of kings and best known as the legendary home of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. It has also gained a reputation among some paranormal investigators as one of the most haunted forests in the UK.
Robin Hood
Several mediums and paranormal investigators have reported claimed sensed encounters with the spirit of Robin Hood within the forest. The Major Oak, a tree estimated at over a thousand years old and long said to have been Robin Hood's hiding place, drew renewed public attention in 2026 following its death.
The Bowl
An area within the forest known as "the Bowl" is described by local paranormal investigators as a former medieval burial ground and a historic site of witchcraft practice during the 17th and 18th centuries, and is regarded as a particular focus of reported activity within the wider forest.
Other reported phenomena

A specific stretch of the forest known as Hangman's Hill has developed a reputation for cars appearing to roll uphill unaided, an effect generally attributed to a gravity hill optical illusion rather than paranormal activity.
