Paranormal Egypt is a British television series that paired medium Derek Acorah with historian Tessa Dunlop, combining historical research with claimed psychic investigation to examine some of ancient Egypt's most enduring mysteries.[1] The eight-part series aired on LivingTV from September 2007, following Acorah's earlier run on Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns (2005–2006).[1][2]
Format
Each episode paired Dunlop's historical research with Acorah's claimed psychic impressions at a specific ancient Egyptian site or subject, using exclusive access to locations including the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx, and the tomb of Tutankhamun.[1] Episodes addressed specific historical mysteries — including whether Pharaoh Tutankhamun's death involved a conspiracy, how the Great Pyramid was actually built, and the causes behind the collapse of the Amarna period under Akhenaten and Nefertiti — approached through a stated "blend of history and paranormal investigation."[1] Egyptologist Ahmed Seddik appeared as a specialist contributor, alongside location manager Ramy Romany.[3]
Reception
The series drew a mixed response. Writing shortly after the series began broadcasting, one contemporary reviewer found the pairing of Dunlop's historical presenting style and Acorah's psychic claims an awkward fit for the subject matter, contrasting it unfavourably with the more straightforwardly ghost-hunting format of Acorah's earlier television work such as Most Haunted and Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns.[4] The series holds a low aggregate audience rating on retrospective streaming listings.[5]

Paranormal Egypt was released as a three-disc DVD box set in 2009, sold in the UK and internationally through retailers including Amazon.[6][7]
