Phil Whyman (born 13 January 1971) is an English paranormal investigator and author, best known for his role as paranormal investigator on Most Haunted during series two to four.[1]

Early career

Before his television career, Whyman worked as a laptop engineer, having developed a long-standing interest in the paranormal after conducting his first haunted-house investigation as a 16-year-old.[2] In 2002, he was selected to join Scream Team, a Living TV series following a group of young investigators who toured the UK's reportedly haunted and unexplained sites while living aboard a converted vintage American touring bus.[3]

Most Haunted

Shortly after Scream Team ended, Whyman was approached to join Most Haunted as paranormal investigator, working alongside presenter Yvette Fielding, director Karl Beattie, and medium Derek Acorah; one profile of him characterised his role on the show as the team's rational, evidence-seeking counterpart to Acorah's mediumship.[2] He appeared across series two to four, filming around 30 episodes and 14 live events over roughly two years, before leaving in 2005 to concentrate on his own ghost-hunting work; he was succeeded on the show by Ciarán O'Keeffe.[2][3]

Later work

In 2007, Whyman published his first book, Phil Whyman's Dead Haunted: Paranormal Encounters and Investigations, introducing readers to different forms of reported paranormal activity and a practical guide to conducting an investigation.[4] He launched Phil Whyman's Ghost Hunting Company in 2012, running public ghost-hunting events, and has written as a columnist for Chat — It's Fate magazine.[3][4] He briefly returned to television with a guest appearance on Spiral Paranormal in 2007 and appeared on Are You Haunted..? in 2018.[1] Outside his paranormal work, Whyman is a musician, having composed and performed synth-instrumental music, including as composer and keyboardist for the group Pesky.[4]

By 2019, Whyman was living near Carcroft in South Yorkshire and working as a library supervisor in Doncaster; he and his wife, Sara, whom he married in 2010, spent a year renting a house outside Doncaster reputed to be haunted.[2]
