Jason Karl is a British television presenter, producer, and paranormal investigator, best known as the original on-screen investigator during the first series of Most Haunted in 2002, before being succeeded by Phil Whyman.
Early career
Karl began his television career at the age of 12, appearing as a dungeoneer on the children's adventure game show Knightmare, where his team became only the second in the show's history to successfully complete the quest.
Most Haunted
Karl appeared across the first series of Most Haunted in 2002, alongside presenter Yvette Fielding and medium Derek Acorah, providing sceptical, evidence-focused commentary and analysis during the show's location investigations — a role distinct from Fielding's presenting duties and Acorah's mediumship. He also contributed to the companion series Most Haunted Unseen, offering further behind-the-scenes commentary. He was succeeded as the show's investigator by Phil Whyman for series two and three.
Later career
Since leaving Most Haunted, Karl has continued working extensively across British television and the wider paranormal genre. He fronted Haunted Halloween Live for ITV1 and ITV2, the UK's first live terrestrial ghost-hunting broadcast, and has presented a range of other formats spanning documentary, lifestyle, and entertainment television, including The Makeover Show for BBC Jam and The Circle for Sky Germany. He is the author of several books, including Jason Karl's Great Ghost Hunt: A Spectral Journey Through Britain's Haunted Realms (2004), and founded the Ghost Research Foundation International.
Beyond television, Karl is a multi-award-winning creative director in themed entertainment, having founded AtmosFEAR! Scare Entertainment, described as Europe's leading producer of live scare attractions, and has designed and produced more than 400 attractions in that field.
