Cryptids and Folklore gathers case files and phenomenon pages concerning creatures whose existence isn't recognised by mainstream zoology, along with the wider local legends these reports often grow out of or feed into. It sits alongside Ghosts and Hauntings, UFOs and Sightings, and Psychic and Tarot as one of the four phenomenon types under Reported Phenomena.
Cryptids and folklore are kept together deliberately, rather than split the way Psychic and Tarot's subtypes eventually might be — most cryptid case files are folklore, tied to a specific local legend rather than standing apart from one, so separating them would mean constantly cross-filing the same page in both places.
What belongs here
- Case files documenting a specific reported creature sighting or sustained local legend
- General phenomenon pages about a type of cryptid (e.g. a big cat, lake monster, or humanoid category) or a recurring folkloric figure, once enough case files exist to justify one
What doesn't belong here
- Pages about a specific person associated with cryptid research or investigation — those belong under People instead
- Pages about a TV series or other production covering cryptid subject matter — those belong in In The Media instead
- A place where multiple different phenomena are reported (ghosts, UFOs, and cryptids together) — that's a Hub Page, not a Cryptids and Folklore entry; see Hub Pages
