The United Kingdom — comprising England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland — is home to one of the most extensively documented paranormal traditions in the world, spanning centuries of local ghostlore, formal psychical research, and modern televised investigation.

The country was home to the founding of the Society for Psychical Research in 1882, the first organisation dedicated to the scientific study of psychical claims, and later to Most Haunted, one of the best-known paranormal television series internationally. Reports on The Vault are currently organised by county, reflecting the strongly regional character of British ghostlore, where a single town's hauntings are often as well documented as those of an entire county elsewhere.
