Yvette Paula Fielding (born 23 September 1968) is an English television presenter, producer, and paranormal investigator, best known as the co-creator and presenter of Most Haunted.[1]
Early career
Fielding began her television career as a child performer, and on 29 June 1987, at 18 years old, became the youngest presenter in the history of the BBC children's programme Blue Peter — a record she still holds.[2] During her time on the programme she won the SOS Award for Most Popular Woman on Television, a category in which she competed against Cilla Black, Victoria Wood, and Kylie Minogue.[3]
Most Haunted
In 2002, Fielding and her husband, Karl Beattie, established their own production company, Antix Productions, whose first commission was Most Haunted for Living TV.[4] Fielding has presented the series throughout its run, across its original broadcast on Living, its later run on Really, and the accompanying live event format Most Haunted Live!.[3] The show established Fielding as one of British television's most recognisable figures in the paranormal genre, earning her nicknames including "the Queen of the Paranormal" and "the First Lady of the Paranormal."[2]
In one widely discussed episode, medium Derek Acorah appeared to become possessed by a spirit identifying himself as "Kreed Kafer," a name invented on the spot by the show's resident parapsychologist, Dr. Ciarán O'Keeffe, specifically to test whether Acorah's trance states responded to a fabricated stimulus; Acorah proceeded to perform a full possession sequence around the fictional name (an approximate anagram of "Derek Faker"), which was later cited by sceptics as evidence against the authenticity of his mediumship on the show.[5]
Other work
Beyond Most Haunted, Fielding has presented and produced Ghosthunting With... for ITV2 between 2006 and 2011, taking celebrity guests to investigate reportedly haunted locations, and has appeared in other British television programmes including I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!.[1]
Personal life
Fielding was previously married to Barry Sweeny; she has been married to Karl Beattie since 1999, with whom she has two children, including daughter Mary Beattie, who has appeared alongside her parents on Most Haunted.[5]
